Parents urged to take extra care of children around train tracks

Posted: Wednesday 2 October 2013

Customer travelling with a pramSydney Trains is urging parents and guardians to take special care of children as they board and alight from trains following two incidents in two days which saw young children taken to hospital after falling between the platform and a train.

On Monday a young child fell between the train and platform at Parramatta Station and on Sunday there was a similar incident when a toddler fell between the train and the platform at Sydney's Domestic Airport.

Sydney Trains Director, Operations Tony Eid has issued an appeal to all parents and guardians to take extra care these school holidays.

"If you're getting on or off a train with young children it's vitally important that you take extra care and hold their hand," he said.

"You should keep children closely supervised at all times at railway stations and on trains and not get distracted.

"It only takes a moment of inattention to end in tragedy."
