CityRail is pleased to support people with disability and will host an information event and morning tea on Thursday 4 December for the public at Central Station to celebrate International Day of People with Disability 2008.

CityRail's Manager Disability Services, Margaret Stack, said International Day of People with Disability is a very important day to raise awareness of people with a disability and encourage support for their rights, dignity and independence.

The morning tea and information session will be held on the main concourse at Central Station near platform 2 between 9.30am and 12.00pm.

Guests will have an opportunity to meet the staff at Central Station and to collect CityRail information booklets and merchandise about International Day of People with Disability 2008.

It will also include tours of a state-of-the-art Oscar train at 10.15am and 11.00am. Some of the key features include designated spaces for wheelchair users, priority seats for elderly and less mobile passengers, accessible toilets and Emergency Help Points, colour-contrasted doors and handrails, and both audio and visual destination information.

The event will be supported by representatives from the Physical Disability Council NSW, Guide Dogs NSW, Vision Australia, Deaf Society of NSW, Para Quad NSW and Spinal Cord Injuries Australia who will each have an information stand on the main concourse at Central Station and will be available to answer questions throughout the morning.
