Suburban and Intercity
Suburban and Intercity punctuality combines data for Suburban and Intercity lines. Intercity Lines that do not service the Sydney CBD are excluded from this calculation.

Peak punctuality
Peak hour services are those arriving in the Sydney CBD between 6.00am and 10.00am and those departing the Sydney CBD between 3.00pm and 7.00pm from Monday to Friday. Services that skip stops are not counted as being punctual. The final destination for morning peak services is Central Station, while the final destination during the afternoon peak is the last passenger destination for each service.

Prior to 1 July 2013, the measure of service performance was on-time running. Peak hour services were those arriving in the Sydney CBD between 6.00am and 9.00am and those departing the Sydney CBD between 4.00pm and 6.00pm from Monday to Friday.

From 1 July 2005 the performance benchmark for suburban services is five minutes. Suburban data before that date refers to a benchmark of three minutes and 59 seconds.

From 1 July 2005 the performance benchmark for intercity services is six minutes. Intercity data before that date refers to a benchmark of five minutes and 59 seconds.

Force majeure incidents are those that are beyond the control of Sydney Trains.
